Build quality

Very good and solid.

Conclusion

A very nice lens and is very similar to the Zeiss Biometar 80mm f/2.8 but don't share the same optical design.

Image quality is nice and sharp and I it renders very nice.
Compare sharpness wide open and the Zeiss is a little better.
But I find the Volna's bokeh to be a nicer and smoother.
Flare and backlight is usually not the older Russian lenses strong point.
And this is not perfect but not all that bad either.

Also a nice plus that is can focus down to 0.6m vs the 1m from the Zeiss, this do however make it a little bigger.

The build quality and feel is just amazing on the Zeiss so the bar is set very high here.
And the Volna is very nice and solid but don't have as nice feel.
Turning the focus or aperture ring is not as smooth but this can of course vary between copies.

This is a great lens which really makes the Zeiss run for it's money.

Thumbs up:
Image and build quality
Contras / Bokeh
Closest Focus: 0.6m (2ft)
Value for the money

Thumbs down:
